PHYSICAL THERAPY
Physical therapy addresses many aspects involved in returning a person to a more pain free state and to the highest functional level as possible. At Wellpoint, in our one-on-one treatments, we focus on restoring soft tissue motility, range of motion and joint mobility using various manual techniques, as well as implementing a stretching and flexibility exercise program. We also emphasize strengthening and core stability exercises that address each individuals need and particular condition. Therapeutic modalities (ultrasound, electric stimulation, etc…) are occasionally added to the treatment, however, we have had great success supplementing instead, with acupuncture.
ACUPUNCTURE
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been practiced for over two thousand years. The fundamental belief that TCM is based on is that energy flows up and down our bodies in pathways or channels. Disease processes or pain occur when there is a blockage or imbalance in the flow of this energy. Acupuncture and herbal medicine are aspects of TCM that help the body to restore a more balanced energy flow, which in turn can resolve pain and improve many facets of health. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes 43 common disorders treated by acupuncture.
ABOUT COMBINING
We have had success with combining physical therapy techniques with acupuncture. The manual therapies and exercise address structure and function, while the acupuncture addresses the energetic components involved in pain, trauma, and dysfunction. We make recommendations following the initial evaluation, or when there has been a plateau in progress.
